Blog Poetry: A Mindful Walk to the Car at Lunch

What is mindfulness?

Moment by moment,

Acceptance,

Awareness,

Noticing,

Focus.

Of feelings,

Thoughts,

Beliefs,

Reactions.

Without a desire

to control

to fight

to flee

simply to accept.

I once found myself

Walking mindfully

To my car at lunch.

I felt the breeze

On my face

And that was enough.

I noticed how the grass,

Bark,

Cement,

Felt under my feet.

I focused on the animal

As it climbed a tree

Sought after food

How it knew its purpose, its goal.

I witnessed the birds

Circling above,

Sticking together,

Knowing where they were going,

And how to get there.

What did this brief walk do for me?

Worries and work concerns

Had no space.

I was present,

Really experiencing life in those moments.

I was unhooked from a buzzing brain.

I detached from needing

To constantly be in my head.

I felt at peace.

A brief walk

Of 1 to 2 minutes

Was enough to make

An inner shift.
